Everytime I see a character or flowers on a cake it's either made of gumpaste alone, or a mixture of gumpaste and fondant. I've never tried gumpaste. What's the best mixture or product to use when making characters or animals or flowers? Is Wilton's gumpaste good?
Thanks.

Wiltons is good for making things...it taste terrible but is great for making figure type items.
Any fondant will store up to 6 months in an airtight container, it doesn't have to be frozen.
Gumpaste is very fast and hard drying.
Most people will mix a 50/50 of gumpaste and fondant when making figures, etc.

Hi JouJ
I've been using gumpaste from Satin Foods which is the same place that manufacturers Satin Ice fondant. When making small decor figurines, flowers and such I'll use MMF but to cover an entire cake I tried the Satin Ice fondant and it is amazing. The gumpaste I purchased premade is wonderful as well. Haven't tried the Wilton gumpaste but hear it works very well too. Gumpaste has much more elasticity to it and will dry very hard like porcelain. HTH

Thanks everybody for the answers, I tried making figures with MMF, I found out that when it's white, it works fine, but when it's colored, then it VERY VERY bad, it cracks a lot!! The only gumpaste I can have access to it the Wilton one, but it's quite expensive here.
Markbolin: I can't purchase any edible item through the Internet, because they won't allow it to enter at the customs where I live (Not in the US). I've tried ordering Icing Colors and Luster Dust, but they returned them to the sender!
Katiecake: I would love to have your recipe for gumpaste if you don't mind.
Thanks a lot.
