Hi, I am new here and looking for a good frosting to frost a stacked wedding cake, I want to put something on the frosting to make it look like it sparkles and also I want to put real rose petals on the cake. Can anyone help?

I don't have any suggestions, but WELCOME to CC!!!

We've got a lot of great people here, so I am sure someone will come up with some ideas!

Take a look in the Galleries and see if there are any cakes that tickle your fancy.

Then send a PM to the artist and ask them for specific technique help.

Hi,
My buttercream recipe is
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup crisco
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp flavor mixture (vanilla, etc.)

3TBS milk
2 lbs powdered sugar

Cream the first 4 ingredients and then add the next two and beat for a few minutes.

After you've iced and smoothed your cakes put them in the fridge so the icing can get hard. then you can paint on it with luster dust mixed with an extract with alcohol in it.

And remember to use dowels to support stacking the tiers.icon_smile.gif

I read and seen where people used either cake sprinkles or shimmer dust and ground them up tiny to use for sparkles on the cake. Is that what you are looking for? Otherwise the luster dusts/peal dusts can be put on with a dry/new blush brush for a shine. Jen

I like Tami's buttercream recipe from recipe911.com. It is really creamy and decorated well. I use cake sparkles as previously mentioned for a general sparkle.
As for rose petals, sprinkle them on site at the last minute so the color doesn't bleed on to the cake. Usually the bride's florist will leave these for you, that way you know they will match her flowers and they should be food safe.

as stated above ,becareful with real rose petals they do bleed. last minute is the way to go. make sure there is no moisture(if they have been in the frig) it will surely make a mess. there is plenty of help on this site. i love it and greatful i found it.good luck

The buttercream dream recipe from this site is really great....I use whipping cream (out of the carton) as my liquid and it makes it a bit lighter....crusts and pipes great. icon_biggrin.gif
