I'm doing 45 mini cakes and need advice for what to do for a board! The bottom tier is 3 inches, and obviously you can't get pre-made boards in that size. So do I need to cut out some cardboard circles and cover with foil, or do you think I can get away with an uncovered foam core circle? What's my easiest option?? icon_lol.gif

For my 3" mini's, I used 6" decorative paper plates that I trimmed down using decorative scissors. For added strength you can double or even tripple them. You can see them in my album here. There's some with Valentines and some with Christmas deco.

Have fun doing 45 of them!!!!!!

use a Digestive cookie, or make your own No-fail cookies. Yum!!!

They get to eat the board, and it would cost you only a few cents per cake as opposed to the time cutting them all by hand.

I made some cakes that size (but not 45 of them!) and I used the little 4" mirrors from Michaels for the bases. they were 99 cents each, if you talked to the manager of the store, maybe they would sell them to you at a discount since you would be buying so many?? they really dressed the cakes up nicely too.

One of my favorite sites to order from - CK - has them, 3 1/2in in diameter. $3.80 for a pack of 25!

Of course! Cookies! I love the idea of tiny boards, but I need them next weekend. Cookies will work perfectly.

Thanks!

I love Ellyrae's idea of small dessert paper plates with decorative scissors to trim them up. Then you could place a doily on it. That would be my choice!

Especially if your in a time crunch.
