I got mad at the cake I am working on today (Both layers cracked, the icing wouldn't stick, it's uneven...) and I left. I waited too long and now my crusting BC has completely set up and I can not smooth it using traditional VIVA method or computer paper. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am NOT taking the icing off, that's the only thing holding it together icon_mad.gif

OK, so no one is responding and I am desperate...so I got out my iron (YES you read that right) and some computer paper. I laid the paper on top of the cake and set my iron to low. Then I gently ironed the top of my cake. It melted the top layer just enough. When I pulled the paper off it pulled off some of the icing (like whne you don't wait long enough to smooth). I waited a few minutes and smoothed the top using VIVA paper towels and it worked like a charm! I can't do the sides, but with the design I am using that is not as important.

Desperation leads to Inspiration !!

Ok, the iron, very creative, I would have never thought of that. I usually keep a water bottle to spray on the cake to get it a little wetter to smooth, but I might try that method since it worked.
