Does anyone know more information about the wilton recall on candy melts? I was watching my local news this morning and they mentioned something about certain Wilton candy melts being recalled because they contain milk and are not labled as such. I am not sure which candy melts though, they showed a picture of the dark cocoa, light cocoa and the vanilla. My family doesn't have an allergy to milk but I want to make sure that this is the only reason that they are recalling them. I just mad a dozen candy shells out of those candy melts for my daughters cake and I hope they are safe. Anyone know what's going on?

Here's a link to an article about the recall-

Thanks for the heads-up- I hadn't heard about it- states that they are recalling them because of undeclaired milk allergy alert- ingreient list doesn't contain milk and could cause problems for those with milk allergies.

I "googled" it and here's what I found:

The recall is because the candy melts contain undeclared milk, and pose an allergy hazard to anyone who is allergic to milk. This means they contain milk, but it doesn't say so on the label.

I called and if you don't have a milk allergy you don't need to send them in. All it's over is them leaving out milk on the ingredient list, they're safe to consume otherwise.

Interesting. I know I have several bags of these (all the varieties mentioned)but I've never had a cake order for anyone with a milk allergy. Now that I know, though, I certainly won't use them on any of my allergy-free cakes. Thanks for the heads up!

I am glad it's just the milk, I was afraid I would have to trash all the shells I made! Lucky for us none of my clients or my family has milk allergies. I hope though, that anyone that does is safe and especially all you wonderful decorators and their customers.
