Okay everyone, I have silly question about FBCT. I played around with it the other day and it didn't work so well. I used tip #1 and wrote "Happy Birthday" then I made so blue balloons and backed the whole thing with white. I put it in the freezer for about 2 hours and when I take it out, I put it on the table..maybe about 3 minutes passed and when I picked it up, it was kindof flimsy like it was melting. When I flipped it over "happy birthday" was all distorted and fat looking. Here are my questions....will the condensation from the transfer being frozen, cause it to bleed on the cake? Also will it start to melt if its not put on the cake right away or did I do something wrong? One more....why did my writing turn out so fat and distorted when I wrote it very neat with a tip #1?

Thanks

Boy I can't answer all your questions, but noticed something you wrote. You mentioned leaving it out on the table for 3 minutes. For FBCTs you are supposed to take it straight from the freezer and put in right on the cake asap(saying don't take longer the 30 seconds from when you get it out of the freezer and get it on the cake). Hopefully someone with some FBCT expertice can help you with the bleeding/fat lettering questions=) Jen

The big problem is that you didn't put it on IMMEDIATELY - like walk to cake straight from the freezer.

Second question, did you look at the underside of the transfer before freezing to compare? It could be the smearing of putting it on (as it wasn't completely frozen any more) or it could be that when you put the white over top and smoothed that you were too forceful and distorted it.... I've stopped "pouncing" on my transfers to get rid of worming. I do it after I've put the transfer on the cake, after it's come to room temperature and after it's crusted - then I use Melvira's trick of the high density foam roller and voila the worming goes away in one pass without distorting anything.

Hmmm... Did you let the writing set before putting on the white? Letting it set a bit allows it to firm up and not slide around.... Lastly, meringue powder added to your bc does help with controlling the bleeding I'm told, but I haven't ever had bleeding issues, so Ihaven't tried that.
