I have been asked to make a stand up teddy bear cake. The person wants a "beige" teddy bear. Would it be easier to make a chocolate buttercream and cut the cocoa down or use a food coloring paste? I have access to Wilton and Americolor brand food colorings so if you have experience with making light color teddy bears I would appreciate it.

knowing me, I would just use a real small small amount of the color and blend and keep it up until I get the color I want..... I did that with a brownie cake I did today.... sorry no picture... camera wasnt charged and they had to be at the school...

If you want a chocolate flavor go with the cocoa, if not use the coloring paste. A small amount of either should give you a light brown, maybe add a little yellow if you want it more beige. Janice

Be sure you make a dense type cake and protect the bear's head, they are famous for falling off!

I have a wonderfully dense cake that I entered into the recipes section of this site. I have used that cake to make many 3D cakes as well as using it for wedding cakes. I know this is an oximoron but it is a heavy yet light cake that compliments all icings and fillings.

Here I was so worried about the color - I forgot the taste. DUH! That will definately help with the decision.
