Most craft stores such as Michael's or Hobby Lobby offer Wilton cake decorating classes for a fee. If you have a local vocational/technical school, they sometimes offer them also. Hope this helps.

I would love to take a class, but my local Joann's doesn't offer the class anymore. I am 1.5 hrs from Michaels in every direction. I guess I will have to self teach myself. Anyone know of some good websites out there that have great tutorials?

Is there a vo-tech type school near? That is where I started my class. Never got to finish though.

Yes, but they don't offer it as a course, you have to take the whole culinary course.

Oh sorry. Our local one offers it as a night course. Might not be as good as a Wilton one though. I just learned on my own but had some help. I have an aunt that decoarated cakes for over 20 years. She recently retired from it by force. Her house burned. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I'd be interested in a website for helping too besides CC.

jessireb,

I would suggest getting the Wilton course books. They are very easy to follow. If you have questions then get on here and ask. icon_smile.gif

Hi pretty new at this but...I took a night class at the local high school for cake decorating and I learned alot. More than what was taught at the Wilton course I. I loved it. A friend of mine compared notes while we were taking the class. She was at Michaels and I was at the local High School. Plus she was Wilton certified but loved to teach at local school -night time and also at the Y. I am now taking Wilton II course at Michaels because I moved but love it. Plus I understand every thing the instructor is talking about. Hope this helps

For many people Wilton is a good place to start. But it is not the last word and I don't think the absolute best. They are just well known. You might try your adult ed classes or extension classes. I am self-taught with a smattering of classes from different teachers. One that I took was at a cake dec store that offered a series of non Wilton. You might try your local cake dec supply place.
