I joined CC a couple of weeks ago as a recreational cake baker and now I am a full blown addict. I have started neglecting my friends and family. Neighborhood kids have started running away from me for fear that I might push more practice cakes on them. My neighbors have all gained wieght, my children are left to fend for themselves and my house is becoming a mess while my laundry is piling up. My first question: Is there such a thing as cake rehab? And second: Any suggestions on how to make strings for a violin cake?

Cake rehab? There probably is, but it's not covered under insurance, as sugar is not on the illegal substances list.

It won't help, anyway. You just asked for help with violin strings, so you are still in addiction denial.

You can't quit any time! There's no pill for this addiction. You have to go cold turkey.

LOL!

Well, I don't want to be an enabler icon_wink.gif but have you thought of black licorice laces for the violin strings? I don't know whether they'd fit the scale of your violin, but it would certainly be edible and easier than piping the strings.

Cake addiction doesn't always have to be a bad thing... When I am stressed from job, husband, and children, I consider my baking and decorating as a kind of therapy. Of course it only helps wehn everything goes according to plan...no cake disasters..lol!

icon_lol.gif Welcome to the club! I'm a new addict. I just literally finished my son's birthday cake and am trying to come up with a new reason to make another cake!

I agree with the previous post about licorice strings for your violin strings. If that won't work, you might have to pipe them instead.

biya.....I read on here somewhere....(where someone made an amazing guitar cake)....that they used uncooked spaghetti for the strings. Maybe that would hold up for your violin?

here's the link. They used uncooked angel hair pasta...and painted it in gold luster dust. Looks amazing!

thanks, the uncooked angel hair looks great, still not sure how big it has to be, but if the pasta works that would be great thanks again for the suggestion

It's funny, I just told my DH that I was going to bake a cake (after being on vacation for a week) and he poo-pooed me. He said I need to hang out with the kids... HELLO I just spent a full week with them. NON-STOP. I am new to all of this too but baking is my newfound and BEST therapy I have ever found!

I am soo addicted that this site is my reward after I am done doing some of my homework for college! icon_lol.gif Sounds silly but, if you need a break I just come on here and learn something else! But then I take up soo much time.

For violin strings....going off the licorice idea...there are those pull and peel licorice pieces! You could paint those with food coloring. Just a thought!
