Two questions:

1. Is it appropriate and/or sanitary to re-use cookie trays (the silver-color ones and the plastic lids that are available at party supply stores, that I think are made to be disposable)?

2. I hate the look of the lace doilies that are available for on the trays, but I do like the look of the paper on the tray. What can I use instead?

Thanks!

I think so. As long as they look clean & like new.

I've reused the silver trays for my own use and they're easy to clean. They do get old looking fast though. For orders, the customer keeps everything. I find that alot of the time the plastic dome will break or crack a bit once you remove it after being snapped on.

For paper covering, are you looking for something that comes up over the sides for a nicer, fancier look? or a subsitute for the lace doilies?

I'm going to have to add that charge to my tray orders. I didn't realize they were so expensive. I mean they aren't really if you think about it, but it's about $4 for the lid and tray together.

cookiecreations: I think I'm looking for a substitute for the lace doilies. How would something come up over the sides? I can't visualize.

I definitely add the charge of trays, etc to each order. The trays and lids can be expensive. If I bought them at the regular party store I'm looking at almost $6.

I was visualizing a really cool design tissue paper or something coming up over the sides of the tray so when the lid was off it made a nice presentation. It would still require something over the tissue paper for the cookies to sit on, parchment/wax/saran, etc. I know I didn't describe that right but I can see it in my head icon_lol.gif

Oh no, you described it fine, I was just trying to figure out how it would work with the lid on and off.

I don't know what I'm going to do. The lace doilies are okay for some orders, but I have an order for 36 baseballs for a 11-year-old and I think it will look funny. LOL! Maybe I'm overthinking this one.

At most bakery supply shops (think places that your local store bakery would order from), they have fancy food grade tissue (like the little tissues that you use to get cookies or dougnuts out of the case with, just on a larger scale) with fun designs on it. Just a suggestion.

I've never seen those before! I was just at a supply store today and they had the boxes of tissues for the self-serve cases, but nothing bigger than that. I will have to investigate!

The lace doilies will actually work just fine. They're cheap and disposable and no one even sees them until they've eaten more than half the cookies. The cookies are what they're eyeing anyway icon_biggrin.gif ! I've used them for every theme imaginable and never given it a 2nd thought, until now that is icon_lol.gif Nothing wrong with coming up with another alternative.
