I am looking to make my first batch of MMF this week and have a coloring question. When do I add color? How do I add the color? What do I use to color it??? icon_redface.gif Sorry for all the questions...but thanks in advance for your help.

r u coloring the whole thing one color??

If you are, then I've read where people add the coloring to the marshmallows right after they are done melting them and right before add the confectionery sugar.

I use Wilton coloring as that's what is local for me.

If your using all different colors, then all you have to do is knead the color in the mmf.

As for how much coloring, it depends on the size of mmf you need. It's kinda like guessing..

hope this helps

If coloring the entire batch one color, add your color when you melt your marshmallows. It's much easier to do it then then after you've add your confectioner's sugar. If you need 2 colors, you'd have to add it after the confectioner's sugar and massage the coloring into the ball of MMF. You can use Wilton or Americolor to color your fondant. I will say that Americolor gives darker colors without having to add so much of it to your MMF. This is especially true with red and black colors. Wilton colors are also good but for black or red, you have to add a lot to achieve the darker shades most people need.

Hope this helps and if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask... we'll do our best to answer them icon_smile.gif

I am on board with the others, just wanted to add my two cents. When coloring the whole batch, remember that the color will lighten as you add more powered sugar.

Second, if you are kneading in the color, it takes a while and a bit of work. I always coat my hands and the surface with solid veg. shortning. This keeps the MMF from sticking to everything. As you are kneading, it seems like the color will never mix completely, but just keep working it. Eventually the color will be all the way through.
