Could I make impressions on buttercream using a piece of lace? I am trying to finalize the design for this wedding cake that is Mid May. I have a piece of lace applique that I want to use for a pattern. I have pressed it into a piece of fondant and a piece of gumpaste and am waiting for them to dry. I either need to find a way to pipe the pattern or impress. I was just wondering if it could be pressed into buttercream. Any ideas??

If you use a crusting BC and let the BC crust for 10-15 minutes after application you should be able to make an impression in the BC.

You could try it on chilled buttercream. Assuming the cake will fit in your freezer to chill completely!

Should I do anything to the lace before I use it on buttercream? I just roled it into the gumpaste witha rolling pin but I can't see that working on the side of a buttercream cake. Any ideas?

What about using the fondant smoothing tool to gently smooth it on to the side?

I use impression mats on crusted buttercream alot and it works quite nicely. With the lace I would probably dust it with some powdered sugar before pressing against the frosting.

Good luck!!
