Making Silver Or Gold Fondant Bows.
Decorating By Ladybug21587 Updated 26 Apr 2007 , 6:21pm by Ladybug21587
I was wondering if anyone had some advise on making your fondant bows gold or silver?
Colette Peters said you could use Lemon Extract and your luster dust, then paint the bow.
Well I tried to do that with the Wilton Luster Dust and the bow looked watery and yellow. It did not work good for me.
Is there another Luster Dust that someone recommends that works better?
Or am I making this hard. Is there another way to do this that is much easier?
Thanks![]()
Does Wilton sell Luster dust yet?? I only heard of them selling Simmer dust. If that is what you have, it will not work for painting like luster dust does=( The liquid that you use will just melt it. So check your bottle to see what you have, if it is actually luster dust or if it is shimmer dust. Also as a side note, I use vodka to paint with luster dust and it works great! Jen
I used luster dust with lemon extract to paint. As stated above - you might have used too much liquid. The lemon (or vodka) evaporates so you do need to replenish that part of your mixture while painting but you don't need alot of either liquid. Your paint should not be watery looking - more on the thick side and it'll cover well. I didn't know Wilton made luster dust either......
Better check that label.
I actually just read on the other forum that Wilton now has like 6 colors, gold included. So you might have the luster dust! Just check the container to make sure is all=) Jen
Thank you everyone for your advice so far.
I think I thinned it to much. I was told by two other people
that the mixter need to be thin like Milk.
So maybe that was my problem.
I have heard that certain people like a particular brand of Luster Dust.
Does anyone have any preferences?
Thanks
