I love this hobby and really enjoy baking/decorating but I feel when I have a cake to do, it pretty much consumes my life for a week. I seriously don't know how so many of you fellow CCers have weeks/weekends where you bake 3, 4, or 5+ cakes!

I'm not saying that I seem to take a long time to decorate but all the steps just seem to drag out over the week. Here is how this week is going with a cake for my MILs birthday on Friday (and it is a fairly simple cake!):

last weekend - bought supplies, baked and froze layers, covered cakeboard
Monday - no cake activity
Tuesday - colored fondant, then had dreams of fondant! icon_smile.gif
Wednesday - made IMBC and formed fondant decorations
Thurs. (tonight) - will be frosting and decorating

Plus all this time I've been thinking about colors, the exact design I want to do, etc. I guess if I had more large chunks of time, it would not be so spread out but we all are busy - work, family, housework, whatever everyone has going on so pretty much the only time I have is after my DS goes to bed in the evening. Does anyone else feel this way? I actually like my "cake" weeks and love to mull over the design, get everything ready and then finally see my design completed. But I was just wondering if anyone else feels like they are consumed by cakes!

Yes, I totally understand! My DH and I have five boys. The two oldest ones go to school (I have to drive them back and forth 35 minutes each way) and then I homeschool the three others.

Right now my kitchen table has school books on it. my SilPat mat, chalks, brushes, and gumpaste cutters. I am working on a cake for this weekend. I am totally consumed.

I don't know how I am going to make more then one cake a week at this point. I guess that's why I have to take it VERY slow. I've thought that maybe it would help me out if I have an inventory of flowers made up. That way when I get an order I can just color them with my chalks.

The baking part and making all of the icing does not worry me. It's the flower making. Maybe this is why I was told that I was "crazy" for doing the flowers BUT, I LOVE doing the flowers. That's my favorite part.

I also have gotten so bad that I dream about cakes!! I have a notebook that I keep on the van and one in the kitchen that I jot down ideas in !! Yea, I got it BAD!!

Are you reading my mind, lol!!! I feel the same way too! I do most of my stuff after my DD goes to bed and I feel like I eat, sleep and dream cake till my cake is complete. I love it but I think I know exactly what you are taking about. I think it over and over about everything I want to do and how I am going to accomplish it! You are not alone!

Ok - at least I know I'm not alone! I knew I'd find others here on CC who feel the same way. icon_smile.gif

Then on off weeks, I feel kind of let down that I don' t have a cake to work on. Seriously, I can only give so many cakes and cupcakes away at work. Plus I can't seem to stop myself from eating scraps and tasting icing so I can't bake all the time. I've already gained too much!
