Hi,
You can get your icing really smooth if you let it crust and then lay a viva paper towel on the cake and smooth it with your hand..here is a link that will help you understand.. icon_wink.gif You use Viva because it has no pattern on it..

I just used the viva trick for the last cake I made, and I couldn't believe how smooth it makes it..Some people also use a piece of computer paper to smooth the cake, I am going to try that next...

sorry, it may sound a bit silly. I would like to ask, the crusting BC requires 1/2 cup of flour. can we eat the icing since it contain raw flour?

Hi,
It's regular plain copy computer paper. Not duplicate paper..Plain white paper..I have never tried it, but heard it works, just like the viva paper towels. You use the same method as the paper towels. I love the viva towels, they work great to smooth the cake!!! icon_lol.gif

Yes you can use flour in your buttercream with absolutely no ill effects. That is the first buttercream recipe I tried with the Viva and it was wonderful! But now I use the Wilton buttercream recipe. It tastes good too and it works just as well with meringue powder.

Hi, I have never put flour in my BC and I get great results. Remember to us the Viva dry. I just lay it on the cake after about 5 or 10 minutes and smooth with my metal off set spatula. Works great!! You have to try it. Sandy
