I am making a bridal shower cake with a kitchen theme. I am making a utensil holder with utensils coming out of the top. The issue I am having is with the utensils. Originally, I was going to do them out of chocolate, but there isn't very many chocolate molds that will work. Most of the items would be to small. Now I am thinks of using foundant to mold the shapes. So...

1. Do you know of some secret mold shop that would carry utensil shaped molds?
2. Or do think I should use foundant?
3. Would the foundant hold up? (i.e - as wooden spoon sticking out of cake) I have only used it for small shapes, thus far. - Should I let is dry rock hard?
4. Any other ideas, advice, pictures would be great.

This cake has to have a "WOW" factor.

Thank you,

Lee

Maybe you could use real utensils? You could take them out before serving like one does with candles and then the bride would have some to add to her collection?!

I did consider real utensils, but the customer has prepaid $100, so she is expecting so-called edible utensils. I was thinking I could buy some Wilton Fondant in the skin colors and make some shapes out of that. I am just not sure if it will be stable enough to stick in the top of the cake.

Thanks for the input - Lee

Adding gumtex to your fondant will definitely make it dry harder.
