I love those cupcake cakes that I have seen on this site. My stupid question of the day icon_redface.gif - how do you do that? How do you keep the cupcakes from shifting and ruining the iced top?

Here's a tutorial that I found when searching the boards here a couple months ago.

Hi,
I've made several ccc's now and they're really quite easy. Just put a dab of frosting under each cupcake before you set them on the cake board. This way they won't slide around. Position them however you want on the cake board but as close together as possible. Then use the icer tip to frost the whole thing as if it were one big cake. I make crusting buttercream ( with all Crisco) and put a thick layer of frosting on so it won't seep down in any gaps. I use the Viva paper towel method to smoothe the frosting too. Fill in your design then add a border around the edges just like a regular cake.

Hope that helps!

The only thing I could add is when I first take them out of the oven I set a cookie sheet on top of the cupcakes for a few seconds to flatten them so they all have a flat top and they are easier to ice.
