Royal Icing Not Stiffening Enough!

Antonia's Icing,

I made it just like the directions said to, and have done it a hundred times before, but this time when the 10 minutes of mixing was over it was still glossy, and a little bit runny. Like it was still too thin. Can I keep adding sugar till I get the consistency right, or will that ruin it?

I think you should be able to add more sugar. Also, recently I have heard not to mix royal icing that long...it just doesn't need it. I haven't tried making any since then though. Has anyone else heard this also?

Yes, you can add more sugar. I also wonder if if it didn't somehow get sontaminated with some oil and thats why its not setting up for you?
