i'm so excited... i just got back from sheboygan where i signed up for wilton class number one and it starts this thursday... they had bring a friend for free so i'm taking my mom as her mother's day gift (my fiance is so relieved that he doesn't have to go)... anyways, i was just wondering what is all needed for this class... i'm sure they'll tell us thursday but i wanted to know ahead of time so i know how much money to bring and i want to know exactly what we learn... do we have to bake a cake? i wonder where they do it in hobby lobby... there's no "kitchen" area there... hmmm... thanks everyone!

They should have some back room that you'll work in. You really only need a sink. You'll need the Course I kit for sure. After that I can only tell you what I needed. Each teacher I've found can be a bit different but I think all the supplies stay the same.

meringue powder, colors, a notepad for notes, apron, scissors, toothpicks, waxed paper, cake rounds the waxed scalloped ones are what we had to have. You'll make icing and cakes at home. If you buy the kit most of what you need will be in that kit with the exception of what I've listed. It's recommended too to bring plastic bags to take used stuff home so you don't end up with frosting everywhere.

I know I'm forgetting something. Maybe someone will add to my list. I know Michael's gives discounts for people taking their courses. Ask Hobby Lobby if they do too.

greencargirl,

From my experience (I just took Course 1 last month), for your first class you will not need cake...It is more so a demo class. There is a Course 1 kit, that has pretty much what you will need for the course. Of course the instructor will recommend a lot of other Wilton brand products throughout the class, it will pretty much be up to you to decide which ones you will need. I can't remember which one of the ladies on here said this to me, and I am paraphrasing, "...Remember that this is a decorating course, not a baking course." You will need to have your cakes prebaked and iced for class prior to showing up. Just have fun..and don't let the rose intimidate you.. thumbs_up.gif

i just took course one on monday... all we needed was a pen and paper..the first dya was just going over basic techniques and taking notes for what you'll need for class. Then the rest of the classes for Course 1 you need a cake... but call the place you signed up and they will be able to tell you what you need to bring with you... Our classes are held in a Classroom thats in the back of the store...there is no stove there either...you make your cake before you go to class and icing also..you bring everything to class to put together...

man, that STINKS!!!! thumbsdown.gif my instructor said that wilton will allow her to teach a class with as little as two people in the class. did you already pay?
if you did, i would certainly ask to talk to the instructor, maybe she'll change her mind. when you finally get to take the course, you'll LOVE IT!!!
