So my fellow CCers, I bet some of you have probably felt as I feel right now. Well I love to bake and decorate cakes. This past Sunday, I was planning on trying a pineapple cake (which I have to make for 1st com. in May) so I got all the ingredients and am in my kitchen but first before starting I've put some potatoes into the oven for supper. I go outside to talk to my hubby come back in a smell gas. I look at the stove all burners off so I open my oven and see that it's bright inside so flame is on (I'm guessing) I decide to open broiler draw and low and behold the light is from the ignition switch and there's no flame. I turn it off try again nothing so I grab my lighter and light it that way. At this point oven is on broil and the flame is about as high as a simmer. I scream. It goes out and now there's no gas flowing at all. No cake no potatoes for supper nothing. My husband says oh just cook on the stove top. Yeah sure, easy enough for someone who doesn't bake. Well we've shopping for a new stove but I'm not having luch I don't like the new ones that have the oven control on a digital pannel. So as of right now no baking until a new stove. See it's really not worth repairing as it has some other little quirks I hate. Can you feel my pain? icon_cry.gif

Check as Sears. I looked on the website, there are ovens with front knobs at several different prices.

Oh my, I'm sorry to hear about this. I would be a mess without my oven!! icon_cry.gif But look at it this way, you'll get a new one soon and who knows, maybe those digital ones are fun to play with. icon_biggrin.gif

If your oven is more than 5 years old, it's probably not worth repairing, but... it might be worth bringing in a repairman (if you can't figure the problem out yourself) to see how expensive the repair is. If the repair is $100, it's not worth it. If' it's $5, it is worth it so that you can CHOOSE when to buy your stove instead having to get things here and now.

Now, I didn't look carefully where you are from, but you can get some GREAT appliances from Sears outlet and in Canada in Scratch and Dent stores.

We had a leaky refrigerator and the fridge was like 20 years old (came with the house) and we got a FANTABULOUS refrigerator for about 1/2 the sales price at the regular sears - because it had a SLIGHT scratch/dent on the side that would face the wall... warranty conveys - only cosmetic issue and one that wouldn't show.

Just steer clear of Home Depot and such - Sears is the best full priced store... and there are still TONS of knobbed stoves.

My stove has the digital controls and I love it! is the easiest thing. It is the second one I have with digital panel and I would not change it for anything.

i understand completely. i just recently moved into my house, so most of my appliances are give-away stuff my family and his didn't need. well my stove (electric) only had 2 working burners and the oven didn't have the temp regulator thing on, so if you preheated for 300 it was at 500+ 20 minutes later. if i ever had to bake anything i went to my mother's house, but the stove was the first thing i replaced. i shopped online and found just the one i wanted at just the right price (ended up getting it at Lowe's, ordered and payed online then went to the store to pick it up)

it does have one of those digital things for the oven (one button turns on then up and down arrows to adjust the temp) i've never been around one like that before, but i love it. it even beeps at me to tell me its done preheating. now i dont put cakes or anything else in too early.

I thought I wouldn't like the digital ovens either, but I got one and I just LOVE it! You tell the oven what temp to preheat to and it beeps when it hits that temp to let you know it's ready. Now, if something were ever to go wrong with it, I'm sure it'll cost a fortune to fix, but I really ended up being very happy with my oven!

On another note - I saw on our local news last night that a woman called the gas company to her house to re-light her water heater pilot light. Apparently something went wrong and her house caught on fire! I'm thinking that gas company employee is out of a job and the company is going to get sued.... icon_surprised.gif

Thanks for all your comments. Maybe the digital wouldn't be so bad after all. But what happens if the power goes out. How do I light the oven then? At least with the knob I can get a flow of gas to the line and light it with a lighter with the digital panel I'm assuming no electricity no flow of gas. I went to Sears but had none with knob. Anyway, last knight my hubby took the time to pull out the stove and check the gas line and everything else he could think of he seems to feel that its the regulator on the ignitor switch that is out. I'm going to check and see if the part can be order and maybe have him put in place. Not too sure on this yet all I know is I'm itching to bake something, anything and I can't. icon_cry.gif

Well, how often do you lose power? take that into consideration... ALSO, my MIL has a gas stove with knobs, but it still has an electronic starter and she couldn't get her stove to light or her burners. Now, we didn't check to see if she did something stupid, but she's had gas stoves her entire life, so I tend to believe her when she said the gas wasn't flowing. So, just because it has knobs, doesn't mean it doesn't have an electronic button to start the flow of gas to the burners. Might want to check on that if you are can!

Well everyone I finally got my new stove over the weekend. It's not connected yet but just knowing I have it is consoling. Of course shopping for one was a nightmare. Although I found the stove of my dreams (not the one I got) it had 6 burners and 2 ovens I was melting just looking at it. DH loved it too but said we didn't have a big enough kitchen or wallet for it. Too Bad. Maybe someday. Anyway, back to baking very very soon. Yahoo. icon_biggrin.gif
