Thanks for bringing up FONDANT. I'm currently in a cake decorating class and I prepared my 1st FONDANT cake....and I must add it was very successful for a 1st timer. icon_biggrin.gif But, the real question is, how or what can I do to make it taste better.

Don't use Wilton. icon_razz.gificon_rolleyes.gif

Seriously; you should pick a weekend or sometime when you have extra time on your hands (yeah, right, huh?), and pick out three or four recipes that you want to try out. I've done that twice, and came up with the MMF + RBC combo as my favorite! You should experiment!

Different brands of fondant will have different flavors, some taste like white choc. even. However, they are all pretty sweet. I have heard that the marshmellow fondant recipe on this site is pretty good tasting, but I haven't made it myself.

A lot of people will just peel it off when they eat a piece of cake.

If you don't want to have to make your own fondant or you just want to find a good premade in case you'd ever need it, try Satin Ice and FondX. They are both delicious and great to work with!! I have used both but right now all I use is Fondx because it has worked out the best for me. You can get both online.

There are a couple of different ways.

1. you can add white or dark chocolate to the fondant. Rose Levy in her cake book has an orange fondant recipe.

2. you can mix the fondant with a rolled buttercream fondant, usually a 50/50 micture or 75% traditional/25% buttercream. There is a great buttercream fondant recipe floating around here, probably in the recipe section.

3. You can use the MMF recipe here (to get a marshmallow taste) and can be mixed with rolled buttercream fondant as well.

Hope that helps.

You can take commercial fondant ( Satin Ice, Pettinice) and knead in white chocolate, or any flavoring extract that you like.
