I know this probably has been addressed and I tried to search for it but no luck. I have to do a cake for a little girl that has an allergy to red #40 only. IS there a list of ingredients in colors somewhere so I could be sure of what they contain? Like black color... would that contain red #40...what about brown?????

Any ideas guys!!!!!

Thanks!!!

I know that there are ingredient lists on the actual bottles of the Wilton colors. I'm not sure about other brands. I just went to the Wilton & AmeriColor sites, and I didn't see any ingredient lists. I'm not home right now, but I can check on my color bottles when I get home. icon_smile.gif

Not an answer really, but interesting information about food dye allergies:

My Wilton black contains these colors:
FD&C Blue 1, Red 3, Yellow 5, Yellow 6.

The small jars do not have ing statements...They came in the box set and I threw the box out I am sure. The large ones do have the statement. I just went to Michaels and looked at the large jars. I just wanted something handy.

Thanks for the help. icon_biggrin.gif

Also, I found out not all colors contain the same ingredients... As you stated MichelleM77 Wilton black has no red #40, however the black in the Garden candy colors 4 pack by Wilton does have red #40. Who would have thought they would have different base color ingredients.

Thanks for all the help.

Sorry....ingredient statements. I was in QA in food processing for a long time...industry slang.

Your kidding? Weird, but there must be a reason they have to use different colors in the icing colors and the candy colors. Maybe for some reason one reacts differently than the other. Strange though. Guess I should have specified I was talking about the icing colors.

If you are going to use a cake mix make sure it doesn't have red 40 either. I know at least one of the yellow cake mixes does contain it.

We have an Americolor representative in our membership. His member name is colorboy. If you send him a PM he will be able to give you information on Americolor products.

Does anyone remember which red it was that got red M&Ms taken from the bag for many years?

Thanks for all the information. As always you guys are on the ball and the mark. Maryjsgirl you are correct on the cake mix thing. We are doing butter and BC is the one without red #40. That was the first thing I checked. This is my first cake with allergy restrictions and it has been an eye opening affair. Kinda scary though...I am double checking everything...omg I would hate to give the girl a reaction from her birthday cake. icon_redface.gif

I would be crushed icon_sad.gif
again thanks!!!!

My oldest son is also allergic to red #40. When I started researching I was very surprised at all the prepackaged foods that contained it. Weird stuff like hot dogs, medicine, and well yellow cake mix, lol.
