If using canola oil in place of vegetable oil with cake mixes causes any effects?
I always use canola oil and my cakes come out great.
Ditto with cheekysweets...I always use canola and never had a problem. ![]()

Thanks so much; I had made the switch to canola, and then had to make a cake and didn't even think about whether it would make a difference!
Thanks I was wondering the same thing guess I'll do the switch bought some and wasn't sure so I bought vegetable too.
I always use canola oil, too - because of food ALLERGY issues.
Vegetable oil comes from a combination of sources, sometimes including peanuts, soy, sunflower and canola (rap seed, I think). Becuase of peanut and soy allergies, I ONLY use canola, which isn't a combination of oils. Granted it's not as bad as pure peanut oil or pure soy oil for those who are allergic, but I don't want to take any chances!
I was surprised to learn that fact, but I've read it in several places, including a "definition" of vegetable oil....
I would like to resurrect this old topic to ask a further question....I use only pure virgin or extra virgin olive oil. you think that is fine??
