I have seen some fantastic cakes here, like the 3D spider man and Star Wars ones and I was wondering if you guys that make them feel the need to say something to your customers about the icing colors.
The red and black make such a mess on the face. And if someone has brushed their teeth recently it stains them in a rather gross manner. Kind of an unsighly mess...(don't you agree?)

I was just wondering if you warn people who ask for these kinds of cakes that they may want to take group pictures before the cake is cut. icon_lol.gif

I made one of the Spider-Man busts but I used an airbrush so there was very little red...just a thin layer on the surface. I made it for my nephew and no red lips, teeth or faces thank goodness! I think most people understand that if the icing is colored, it may transfer to teeth, lips, carpet and clothes but a friendly mention wouldn't hurt icon_smile.gif I know I've had some blue lips after eating cakes with blue borders.

you know I didn't even think of the airbrush. That would make it a thin layer.
Guess I now have another point to explain to dh why I 'need' an airbrush. icon_razz.gif

I still cringe when I see one of those over the hill cakes....black icing! AHHH!

LOL like adding insult to injury...you're over the hill, your lips are black and your teeth are grey! My mechanic cake turned everyone's lips blue too. The blue was very dark and then I used black to darken it even more. I wasn't very happy with that cake already and then to see everyone with blue lips...ugh! I can laugh about it now but at the time icon_cry.gif

When I do one with dark colors-I always tell the mom or whomever is ordering to be prepared-that's an awful lot of red, black or whatever-just so ya know-most of the time they say that's what they wanted but I am sure when they get it to the cake site it's still more than they imagined-oh well-can't say they weren't warned!!

I usually only point it out if its for an adult. Kids seem to think its cool to have funky colored teeth

About 5 yrs ago, I made a fire engine cake for DS's birthday. One of the mothers was so mad at me b/c she had just had her teeth professionally whitened (this was before all the do-it-yourself kits) and her teeth turned pink!

At my cousin's wedding a few weeks ago, the cake was COVERED in navy blue flowers and roses. Needless to say, everyone was walking around with blue teeth, tounges, and lips. icon_lol.gif Everyone found it funny though (adults included). I do usually try to stay away from large amounts of dark colors myself, but I didn't make the cake.
