Hello, this may be a really dumb question but what do you all use to cover your cake boards or bases with. Do you use the fanci foil or is there something else a little more reasonably priced?? icon_confused.gif

There are many different styles that you can use. Some people cover their boards in matching fondant, royal icing, contact paper and wrapping paper. I think that the possibilities are endless. The wrapping paper which comes in metallic colors is much cheaper than the fanci-foil.

I just saw a recent thread on this, I have always been a fanci foil person but after reading some posts, went right out to the scrapbooking section of Michaels and picked up a floral vellum, pix below, to cover the circle of the 6" mothers day cake I am doing to match, being kindof plasticky, the vellum does not need contact paper over it, from now on I will probly exclusively stick to contact paper covered scrapbooking papers, the possibilites are endless and the cost is about the same as fanci foil.

I use either freezer foil (heavy duty) or freezer paper taped to back of board. Depends on occassion of the cake as to which I use. Somethimes I use the fancy foil if for a really nice wedding. Good luck

That's very pretty! It's how I do it too - I buy a wrapping paper that will co-ordinate with the cake, cover the cardboard with that and then cover the wrapping paper with clear cellophane. I found some wrapping paper the other day that was tissue paper with a spotty cellophane over it - it looked really nice and cut out the extra step!

Thanks everyone for the help!! Everyone here is so helpful - I just love this site!!! Love the scrapbooking & wrapping paper idea - I have tons of that around the house (I love to scrapbook too)! I was wondering if the freezer foil or other foil would work. I haven't really had to do any cakes that needed a decorated cake base yet.

Thanks again for all the help!! icon_biggrin.gif
