What do you use as a filling between layers? I used strawberry preserves last week (a last minute cake) and most everyone loved it, but my sister didn't like it all.

What kind of non-chocolate or buttercream fillings have you tried?

There are so many different fillings you can use. Lemon, blueberry, strawberry, bavarian cream, just so many of them. There are recipes for all types of fillings here on this website. I've gotten so many great recipes from here that I want to try out.

One of my favorite shortcuts is to use the flavored frostings that you can buy at the supermarket. Sometimes it's easier than making a filling from scratch. My favorites are lemon and cream cheese. Pie fillings also make good fillings. Puddings too. There was also a recipe for mousse using instant pudding mix and whipping cream (I think). That sounds like it would make a great filling.

I usually use pie fillings or puddings.
