Need Help With Color Scheme For 1St Communion Cake.

I am making a first communion cake for this weekend. I am planning on putting white calla lilies on it, and a gumpaste cross. Having trouble with colors. She had said she wanted it to be mostly white, but I am wondering if a white cake with white calla lillies might be 'too white'. So I thought of doing the cake possibly in a soft blue with white accents (lettering, ribbon etc) Furthermore, I am not sure what color to do the cross in. I am hoping it will stand up on the cake, not flat. I dont think she will mind if I go my own direction on the cake, she is getting a deal. i am spending way more money on the cake than she is paying for it LOL! But obviously I am hoping to use the supplies for future cakes. Any good ideas?
I love white with silver accents. I've done a couple of things in those colours recently and they turn out really pretty.
But do you think a white cake with white calla lillies is too much white? I do like the idea of silver though, that would be really pretty.
No, I don't think it would be too much white, especially if they have a couple of leaves with them. Have a look at my Easter cookie bouquet. I did silver and white crosses that could look nice on your cake!
I'm doing a Communion cake for next Sat. and it'll be mostly white, with roses, my niece hasn't told me what color she wants them to be. I like the idea of adding silver or if its a boy a little blue or girl some pink? The idea you had sounds like a good one though...I'm also going to try to make a GP girl kneeling and praying.
Good luck!
Yeah, that is pretty! sort of keeps with the white theme too!
Pearl dust? It seems to make white less monotonous, and I think it looks great with silver (especially if you put some luster in the middle of the calla lillies). I've only ever used it on cookies, but the cakes I've seen with the pearl finish just seem to pull off the white concept a bit better.
Yes, I have some and will definitely use it!
You'll have to post a pic when it's finished. Can't wait to see it!
This cake should be white, its a representation of the purity and red represents the blood of Jesus. A white cake with white callas is extremely elegant. I just did a cookie bouquet yesterday for a confirmation. I made 3 white crosses the one in the middle was a bit bigger with more red accents w/ doves in the middle of the crosses then the crosses were surrounded by white doves and put them in a silver vase. I'd keep it in those colors as they represent certain things. Good luck and show us a picture when your done.

I am also in the same bind. I am making a first communion cake for my daughter this weekend and I am completely stumped. I had an idea for a bible cake and now I am second guessing myself. I am pretty new at this. I have taken the first Wilton class, and never mastered the flowers, so I am pretty nervous. As for your dilema, I really like the idea of the white cake with the silver accents, I think I will try and incorporate the same color scheme on mine (minus any flowers of course). Thanks everyone
I like the idea of using the pearl dust, and I agree that a mostly white cake will look very elegant. Are your callas going to have stems? If so, the green of the stems will also help break up the color. And, having read keonicakes message, I was thinking that wrapping a red ribbon around a bundle of calla lilly stems would tie it all together really well. And I LOVE the pop of red against a mostly white cake. Good luck! ![]()
Okay here is the finished cake. I did it in mostly white, a few light blue accents. I did like the silver idea, but i then didnt know what to do the lettering in. I got some of the shimmery ribbon, so it gives it a little sparkle effect. I also pearl dusted the whole thing. Not my favorite cake ever, but I am happy with it.
