The secret is cutting a base in the bottom cake so that when you apply the top half it sits perfect. Then, apply your fondant over the crumb-coated ball. Instead of trying to roll the fondant all the way around the ball, just trim the edges up to where you cut the base. Then you can easily move the cake and it looks as if the whole thing is covered.

Take a look at my Eyeball Cake. It worked out pretty good.[/img]
