First Wedding Cake Order - Lots Of Questions

I was asked by a co-worker to make her daughter's wedding cake in September. I am so excited but nervous. I thought I would ask CC'ers for some advice. What is a good cake recipe for a wedding cake?
What are some good filling choices. I don't know yet what type of cake or icing choice the bride wants but they have asked that I make a few suggestions for them about cake and filling choices.
I am also suppossed to make the groom's cake so I will need a good chocolate cake recipe. Her fiance is a Georgia Bulldog fan and she wants a huge red "G" on the cake. would anyone happen to have a picture of this. I know September is a little while away but I want to start practicing so I will be ready.
Thanks in advance for your help. I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas you may have.
In my humble opinion, a few recommendations for a first wedding cake:
Cake: No sponge or chocolate cakes if they will be stacked. A wedding cakei s not that ime to practice that if you haven't done it before ( I don't know your level of experience, so no offense is intended) Use a sturdy pound cake and add flavor dimension with fillings.
Fillings: No mousse, custards or creams. Use jams, preserves, ganache or buttercreams. They are sturdy and less likely to collapse.
That's all I have to offer. ![]()
Good luck!
I personally have not made this(but so want to), but other CC members rave about it and say they use it a lot for wedding cakes. Here is the link..

CC members have mentioned raspberry for the filling with that cake as just awesome! So you could use jam or the filling that comes in the sleeve for it. Sorry only second-hand info, but the info came from the great CC members here!! HTH some, Jen
