Layer Question Please Help?

If you bake 2 8" cakes and put them a top of each other is that a 2 layer cake? or is one 8" cake split into a two layer cake?

I think people use these terms interchangeably. I usually say baking 2 cakes seperately and then layering is a 2 layer. A cake cut intwo is called a "torted" cake. HTH

I agree with snicker. A 2 layer cake is 2 cakes, one on top of the other.

I've always used them interchangeably but now that I've been shown the difference I'll never forget. Like I've always said I don't think a day goes by that I don't learn something new. Thanks for the info, Snicker.
