...and completely embarassed about it. You know how you're never supposed to look a gift horse in the mouth... and WHAT kind of person would complain about something they got for free?!? Well, at first I was a little disappointed in a freebie I received! icon_redface.gif

I ordered some molds from SpinningLeaf, they are awesome... but the freebie that I got with my order was the plain flat no decoration mold. icon_sad.gif I was kind of bummed. I mean, I thought at first that ANYTHING would've been better than plain! But then I realized that all this did was open it up for me to use my imagination to find a way to make them dazzling! See, there's that silver lining! I'm not ungrateful!! And I was embarassed at myself for feeling that way at first! icon_wink.gif

Its great that you turned it around like that thumbs_up.gif I just placed an order last week with them and can't wait to get mine, I hope I get the snowflake for a freebie but I will try to be happy with whatever they send, its not like they have to send a freebie anyway icon_smile.gif

Yes, it's absolutely true that they don't have to send that freebie, which is why I had to change my thought process!!! icon_wink.gif I sure would've loved that snowflake though!! I might end up ordering it anyway! icon_wink.gif

haha.
I was a bit worried about that at first, i did get a good one though. Although i would have loved the plain one better. cause with the plain one you can add anything on top to make it different, special and unique. Ok yes at the end i too am grateful for the free one i got regardless.

I almost ordered the plain mold last night, but I'm debating on whether I need to buy a heat sealer for my cookie bags. LOL! You can send the plain mold to me, I'll send you my addy. J/K.

I was thinking that you could use any of the design chocolate molds to make 'toppers' for your plain CCO's. I was looking at some of them and couldn't imagine painting the colored chocolate neatly into the design on some of those molds and figured using the chocolate toppers would work better. That plain mold is more versatile than any other one I think.

Oh man... I almost ordered the paw print because there are lots of animal lovers in my family. I ended up getting the smiling guy, the jack-o-lanterns, and the heart and cross molds, then the plain one for free, but wish I would've gotten either the snowflake or the pawprint as my freebie. But like I said... no looking in this gift horse's mouth! icon_wink.gif

I asked for the awareness ribbon. I forgot to say that I was creeped out by the smiley face, so with my luck that's the free one I will get. LOL!

I never thought to request what my freebie would be. I bought the flower & support ribbon & got the paw print free. I will just order the snowflake next and hopefully get something new as the freebie, would love to have the heart too icon_smile.gif

I'm confused! I looked at their website - it looks like they have great molds - but do you use them for chocolate? Can you use them to mold fondant and gumpaste?

Their website says it's for "soap" molding but I know that's not what you all are using it for! thumbs_up.gif

Mikkelpaige-yes you can use them for just chocolate but what we are doing is making chocolate covered oreos with them. Here is a post about it http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-145661.html
At www.spinningleaf.com they also have a tutorial on how to do it icon_smile.gif

has anyone tried to use these molds to make a version of cake balls?? Kinda shape them like oreos and do the same thing?? Just a thought... dont know how well it would work! icon_smile.gif

They would be waaaaay big!! Unless you only half fill the mold perhaps. Make it a wide flat cake disk!! You'd want to line the mold with chocolate first, or you might have trouble getting it out of the mold! Eek

Edited to add: That's what I thought when I first looked at them... these will make great filled candies!! Cake ball batter, caramel, cream centers...etc. Mmmmmm! I also thought about bakng a flat, thin sheet cake and cutting out pieces with a small round cutter and putting them in there instead of the oreo!! SO many possibilities!
