I need to make stars with a diamond/rhinestone effect for a hello kitty cake for Saturday. I thought about silver disco dust, but wasn't sure if that would do it!?? Do I need to paint with nu silver and then do that - or what! Any advice would be great!!! thumbs_up.gif

Cut out stars then paint lightly with gum glue so they are slightly tacky then pour pixie dust over them and allow to dry. I tried putting the silver on first and found the pixie dust only looked better.

if you are using a metallic dust (gold or silver), you need to use a make up sponge dipped in a bit of vodka. I saw this demo this weekend and it worked beautifully!!! the make up sponge was amazing and can be washed and reused.

I actually have some sponge type paint brushes that I use for pearl/luster dust - I love them!

The AL chapter of ICES had a day of sharing on Sunday and classes Monday and Tuesday featuring Geraldine Randlesome of Creative Cutters out ot Toronto, Ont. She demoed her mats and the dust, make up sponge was one of her tips.

If you don't mind me asking, could you elaborate on how she used the dust and the mats with the sponge?
