Border Idea That Worked Great!

Hello everyone! I made a Birthday cake this morning for a one year old, and since I am so bored with the same ole borders, I tried to come up with something new. I experimented with different tips for about an hour before I came up with this one. I used tip 134 and just made the "E" motion along the cakes edges. Well, I practiced on a flat surface, so I had no idea that it was going to do what it did on the actual cake. It was a pleasant surprise! It made almost perfect little swags along the side of the cake! I loved it!
Anyway, I thought I would share. Somebody somewhere has probably already done this border, but It's kind of fun to think I did it first!!!
Here is a picture of the finished cake!
So did you do the single swag on the side of the cake separately, or that was the result of using the tip 134? That looks really cool! Great job on that! I love the dots you put around it, too.
I also feel like I'm always doing the same old shell border and would love to be more creative, but I don't have an ounce of creativity in me when it's crunch time on a cake! That's what I rely on my CC buddies for!!!
So thanks for the great idea! ![]()
Love the boarder - and the extra color you added (was that a small star tip?
Potatocakes, That little extra swag on the side was a result of using the tip 134. The last little hole on that tip just draped them on as I did the "E" motion. It was really cool...and I was very happy about it!
Coffeecake, I added the pink and purple dots using tip 3. The yellow ones are the tip 13 star. I tried to mix them up a little to make it look more like confetti. (didn't work....they still look like a bunch of dots!) But it still looked pretty good.
Thanks for explaining the extra sway - all with one tip - GREAT
I am going to have to try that.
