I have to do a cake for a funeral that is tomorrow, the cake is baked and cooling now. One of my husbands cousins passed away, does anyone have an idea of what type of flower would be best for a funeral cake? Are roses the best way to go do you think? It's not going to be a cross cake, they have a HUGE family but just want the 1/2 sheet. Also, if I do roses, does anyone know the meaning of the different colors of them? The cousin that passed away was a male, so I'm not sure if I should use roses that would reflect that, or if it would even matter? Any ideas? I'll be starting the decorating on it in about an hour, would really appreciate any thoughts! TIA
Sorry for your loss. You could also do lilies, daisies- any simple flower would do. Roses and the colors:
RED= Love, Romance
White= Purity and Innocence
Pink= Appreciation/admiration
Yellow= Joy/friendship
Orange= Desire
Peach= Sincerity/gratitude
Lavendar= Enhancement
White lillies are a traditional funeral flower where I'm from (which is why I think it disturbs me when I see them on wedding cakes!). I had a look at rose colors and their meanings and white is the color for reverance, and dark crimson for mourning. Hope that helps!
So sorry for your loss. I found this website that tells the color meanings. HTH ~Donna

I was just coming back to post that I think I might just go with carnations on the cake lol. But hmmmm, have to decide what color of those to use!! Do you think white carnations? Yellow? I don't know, I can't decide, if only I could see what it would look like before I do it ![]()
. Ok, I'm going to decide right now, cause I have to get in there and get started soon! I think I'm going to do a deep yellow, carnations. Or maybe red ![]()
. I shouldn't be doing this, I have to much trouble making decisions lol. Yellow or red? I'm going to ice the cake white. What's the majority think? Thanks!!!

Wow, it all sounds lovely!! Thank you all so much for the help! Ok, so it looks like out of all of this, from the meanings here, that black, which I don't think I want to do, and dark crimson are the main morning colors. Maybe I could do a dark crimson in a carnation, that might turn out nice. You are all such a BIG help, and so fast to respond to help! What did I ever do without this site
Many thank you's again!!!
That's a good idea also! And those are such beautiful flowers. I haven't done any gumpaste work yet, that's what that is right? It makes really gorgeous flowers. I wish I had the time to do some of those for it, it would be great. But I just found out late last night that they even wanted a cake for the wake afterwards, AND I have to take my youngest son to ball practice tonight, and in the morning at 11!! I was tired before I begun lol!! Thanks for the idea Doug
I have a half brother named Doug, he's a Columbus police officer ![]()
