whenever i stack my cakes, i use the cardboard circles. Am i supposed to cover them with something because my icing seems to stick to them when you take a layer off and cakes I usually see don't do that. Also, how do you make your icing a dry look. Mine seems to have a glossy wet look and i want that smooth soft dry look. Please help. And if anyone has a good chocolate icing for a grooms cake please give suggestions.Thanks
Is your icing a crusting BC icing? If you look on my pics (last page, last 6 pics) you will see the indentation on the tops of the cakes showing the cake plate was really pushing down on the top of the cake, but when it was removed, none of the icing stuck to the plate .... it's all still on the cake. My icing crusts very well and this helps prevent the sticking.
Some ideas that have been posted on here have been putting powdered sugar, cornstarch, or coconut under your cardboards. I've never used any of those and don't have any problems with sticking.
thanks. My icing is a crusting, but to smooth my icing i use the warm water technique. How long should I let it dry out before stacking?
I'd like to know this too. I'm going to make my first "practice" stacked cake tonight.
