I did a search, but I am not exactly a "smart searcher"
I have been asked to do a whimsical grad cake for 50, would a 10-8-6 round do it? She wants it with fondant grad hats on it. I think I shot her to high a price, I tend to follow the "Box Mix" rule when pricing cakes and I think my homemade price guide may be to steep, but jeez, for the time and effort that no one else around here will do, sometimes it seems right. Anyhow, for BC or MMF?? Thanx Heather
Based on the price matrix, just the cake itself, plain ol plain ol, would be sufficiently charged at $92; so you add fondant, the trimming to get the whimsical shape, and then whatever decorations, based on how much you are putting on there, it could be an appropriate price.
thanx guys, feeling a little bit better now. This is the general "Box Mix" guide I got the basic from another post many moons ago, and have tweaked it some for my area, etc. This is just a guideline, I lower/higher depending on complexity, design, family
etc. It really has served me well and tends to be fairly accurate when stacked up against (no pun intended) other pricing methods. I actually do very little paid work, maybe one or 2 orders a month, it seems to be picking up again though. Most is donated/done for church/shcool, kinda my "gift". However when I do make a cake, I know I am pretty decent, and that they can't get what I can do in this area very easily so I tend to stick to my guns, I honestly don't want to be so busy I wind up hating my passion, I find my prices help that
. This is based on 12 servings in a box mix, I would rather go under than over, people in these parts are big eaters!!
