I'm new to the forum and pretty new to cake decorating. I have never taken a class just learned from watching my mother as I was growing up. I have enjoyed looking at everyone's creations but sometimes don't know what initials mean. Such as MMF? Could someone please please most the most used for a dummy like me...lol.

Thanks so much. I'm already addicted. Yesterday, I posted all the cakes that I have recently made. I'll probably post a few more tonight that I haven't uploaded from the camera yet, including the one that I'm that I put in the oven at 6:30 this morning.

Very nice cakes! How long have you been decorating? DId you take classes or did you "self teach"? Good luck later, I have 3 cakes to make this weekend too. LOL. Busy Busy Busy icon_smile.gif

I'm also new - what does it mean when someone posts a "bump"?

I have never taken a class although I would like too. My mother decorated cakes as I was growing up. Watched her and have practive decorating wax paper since I was about 7. Started making cakes in the late 90's for my children and family. Didn't have the self-confidence to bake for others until last year. Made my first cake for a friend who's son graduated from high school. Only charged her for what it cost me. Of course she included a exteremly nice tip when paying me. Most people say I charge too little but I'm not a business. I only do this for family and friends, friends of family, friends of friends, family of friends of friends...lol.

I try to be originial in my cake designs and I have yet to make my first rose. My theory is that anyone can make a rose, let's do something creative. I will not do a character pan cake for anyone other than my children. I hate those things. I prefer to trace the artwork onto a round or square cake and fill it in with BC. I hate writing on cake and will avoid it at all cost. But I am getting better at it, especially when I do fondant letters cut with cookie cutters.

My biggest challenge is keeping my 18th month old from climbing onto the table while I'm decorating. I have be know to throw away a cake because I did not like the way it came out. I am very particular and my cakes have to be near perfect. I'm learning to become less particular because of the Louisiana humitiy. Sometimes icing just will not cooperate when the weather is very humid.

I always include the candles on my cakes. I purchase them in a pack of 96 for $1.00 at the local Dollar Market. I like to incorporate them into the design. I believe that it helps me generate "new friends" needing cakes. I think it's horrible when some purchases a beautiful cake then sticks a big tacky looking number in the middle of the decorations.
