so my next cake project will be making my son a pirate ship cake. i want to do more than my normal icing and thought about covering it in candy clay.

heres the kicker i live in texas and this cake is for july 1st!!! basically it will be like making a cake in hell!!!!! sooo is candy clay a bad option for me??? the cake will need to travel at the least 30 minutes to get to the party. would mmf work better or should i try some other brand of already made fondant???

i think i would try a ready made fondant. Or mix the candy clay at least 1/2 and 1/2 with fondant. What i can see happening is the clay getting really soft on you and you wanting to hurl the cake accross the kitchen before you are done (at least that would be me )

any fondant will get soft in Texas summer heat. That is just a given. Satin Ice is FANTASTIC as far as texture and flavor are concerned. If you want to do MMF I would use Rhondas Ultimate. It really is the ultimate in my opinion. I refrigerate all of my fondant cakes so I would suggest refrigerating before you do your road trip with the cake and keep it in a cooler on the way there if you can...ohhh and LOTS of A/C! Good luck and I hope this helped a little...btw...candy clay ROCKS! I love working with it!

I don't think I would be brave enough to use the candy clay or MMF. I would end up with a pirate-shaped hole in my kitchen wall, marking the exact spot the cake was thrown at LOL!!!

Try Satin Ice. I can't get over how wonderful that stuff really is. You can't go wrong! And the taste is wonderful!

I have been told that FondX works well in hot weather.

Anyone agree?

The only problem with that is that you have the clean minty fresh feeling when you eat the fondant thanks to the fixodent. Or am I wrong?

I don't have that problem with SatinIce, which is all I use.

satinIce sounds like my best bet. i think a fondant covered cake will hold up better than a just BC or cream cheese iced cake. I have plenty of time to practice any one know of a supplier i can get the satin ice from???? and thanks to everyone for their help living in texas in the summer sucks when it comes to cake making lol

go stright to satin ice. their web address is www.satinfinefoods.com
also think about doing the ship in rice krispie treat and sit it on a sheet cake decorated like water. that might help. the folks at satin ice are great to work with. best of luck.
