I personally HATE HATE HATE this tip. I've had one for years and never got the courage to try it. Well....tried using it today for a wedding cake that is due Sunday after seeing everyone say how great it is for squares. Well....maybe it works for squares but it made a huge MESS out of my hexagon cake. The icing would not stick to the cake at all and I literally ended up tearing the cake apart trying to smooth it out. Sorry but I have to disagree....I've never heartily recommended this tip when I teach classes and I am sorry to say that I will probably tell my students not to waste their time or money on this tip. Sorry but needed to vent, and now I'm going to go back and rebake another top tier since this one was destroyed.

Projectqueen,

Rip off a piece of plastic wrap about 14 to16 inches long. Lay it flat on the counter. Blob a bunch of icing in the middle and towards one end. I'm trying to draw a picture! he he icon_lol.gif

Then fold the left side over the frosting then the right side overlapping. Twist the edge where there is extra wrap and keep the other end (that is close to the frosting open. Squeeze gently to make it into a cone shape and drop the whole thing into the bag.
Another attempt at a picture!

If the word wrap-around doesn't change everything, the pictures should tell the story. If it's all messed up, I hope the verbal description helps.

scWMI,

I'm sorry you had such poor luck with this tip ... especially on a wedding cake!

Someone said that they use a #18 tip for frosting too. Have any of you heard this? I love the icer tip and thanks for the plastic wrap idea.

Thanks for all the great 'tips' - excuse the pun. I will be trying to narrow the opening on mine and just keep taking some off if it is still too thick.
And joining the husband on the next trip to the hardware store!

Has anyone had any experience using this tip with whipped topping? I have a big wedding cake coming up, 3 stacked tiers and 2 satellite hearts, and would like to use it for this, but I don't know how how it would work.
