So....I am making a cake shaped like a clog. I think I know how I am going to carve it, but if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them.
I plan on icing the shoe in buttercream, but I don't know what colour to do. I bought some silk tulips to place in the clog (I tried gumpaste tulips and failed).
Any other accents on the clog you think I should do?
Thanks!

Given up on the windmill cake icon_wink.gif ?! How about a little fondant/gumpaste windmill on the bridge of the clog?

I totally gave up on the windmill icon_razz.gif
Especially since I couldn't figure out how they would cut it up and serve it....and it was causing so much stress.
I was thinking of "painting" on a flower design...there is really no good way to do that if I am icing the shoe in buttercream, is there?
I found a really great picture of a windmill design for the clog, but can't figure out how I would paint that on buttercream!

Sorry you had no joy with the windmill blades icon_sad.gif I like bonjovibabe's idea, or you could do it in FBCT or CT or use buttercream and freehand a Delft blue pattern. Even tulips, though maybe that's a little redundant with tulips coming out the top...

Could you paint it on fondant first and then put that on the cake, kinda like a plaque? I've seen clogs here that have Delft blue painted plaques put on them, in a sort of frame. That might be an idea. I think if you use crusting buttercream and let it set up in the fridge for a bit, you should be able to paint directly on the buttercream, but I've only ever used fondant to paint on, so I can't be 100% sure about that! Can't wait to see the finished product!
