Hello! I am in need of ideas for a tropical cake. The customer wants yellow cake with chocolate frosting, and the filling to be sliced strawberries. I do not have a problem with any of that, but she said that she wants the decorations to be 'tropical'.

Now, the only ideas I have so far are 1)doing a small arrangement of real flowers in the center, like hibiscus 2)using silk flowers that can be placed on the top and around the edges of the cake. The cake is only a two layer 9" round, to there will not be alot of room, and she does not want a 'water' theme (like a small beach theme) on it. Also, I do not have enough time to make fondant or gum paste flowers.

This is for her daughters 17th birthday.

Any help I can get from you all is appreciated!

Crystal

P.S. I know that with using real flowers I will have to have them in a receptacle that will be put in the cake, and that no part of the flowers or stems can touch the cake (due to pesticides, herbicides, and residues from growing and people touching).

You could put tiki faces molded out of chocolate around the sides on the cakes and then put tropical flowers on the top of the cake.

That is a good idea! Thank you, I will mention it when I talk to her later this week.

If you have a Party City near you, they have a new tropical/island theme section with a lot of items that could be used as cake decor/toppers.
