I need to make some flowers for decorations-

What is the easiest way to color this fondant?

I need to divide it out and make 2 different colors (lavender and light blue)

can I use gel coloring?

any help would be great as I have never used this before-

Thanks

Yes, you can use any type of coloring you like. I blob some color on, then smear it around with a ball of fondant before kneading it in. If not, you have a little pocket of liquid (or gel) that tends to burst through and make a much larger mess on your counter and hands. Another option is to tint a small ball deeply in the color you want then add that as needed to a larger amount. This works well if you are trying to get a specific shade that takes more than one color to acheive.

Thanks for asking luvmygirl! I have some Wilton fondant to tint tonight and I don't use fondant much and have only colored it once. I know I know - tastes yucky but it will be used for only decorations.

I like using fondant, but hate the mess. The last time I made red my boys said it looked like I cut myself. Good things is it washes off skin easily.

KoryAK - thanks! That worked great! I also rubbed some shortening on my hands before kneading (another tip I got here on CC) and the color washed off really easily! No purple or blue nails/hands for work today - woohoo!

I use some cheap disposable gloves when mixing color into the fondant!

I also found out (from working at wallymart and coloring frosting all day and using airbrushes) Shampoo takes the color off really well too.
