I had an order for cake to serve 200 so I suggested 2 full sheet cakes, and a three tier cake--10", 8" and 6". If I am not mistaken that actually serves about 300 according to Wiltons chart right? Anyway the customer is saying that it was not enough and they ran out. Usually I get the amount right and hear that people have enough cake and only have to take home just a little bit of it. Just checking..... icon_redface.gif

I've got 78 for the 6-8-10" (thats at 4" and counting the top tier) and 224, 324, or 432 for the two sheets depending on if you did them 2, 3, or 4" tall. Either way it should have been fine! If she had a piggy group, she should have ordered accordinglyicon_smile.gif

the big thing is going to be who cut them? Also did you discuss the size of the serving before hand? They may have thought that a 4"x4" slice was normal when it was suppose to be 2"x1"...

But I agree with KoryAK there definitely should have been enough cake for 200. On average any double layer sheet cake will feed 100 easily. (depending on what size you call a full sheet cake)

What were the dimensions of your sheet cakes (since there are so many differing viewpoints on what a full sheet actually is).

I tried posting, but the site went down. Ok, sheet cake size was 2 12"x18" put together--I made 2 sheet cakes this way for a total of 4 12"x18" cakes on top of the three tier cakes. I based servings on 1 1/2"x2" squares, but told her she could go 2"x2" and have enough. I only sat the cakes up and left since the party was four hours away. I don't know who cut the cakes. I had another order for the same amount and they had plenty left over--which they wanted so they could take it to work. So I don't know if there were hungry people involved or what? icon_wink.gif I felt guilty for a while, but I am feeling better now. I think next time I will include instructions on cutting the cake with the sizes so there are no misunderstandings.

24x18 (which is two 12x1icon_cool.gif cut into 2x2" squares would be 12 rows by 9 rows = 108 pcs times two of these cakes = 216 PLUS the 3-tiered cake.

Even if they cut them 2x3.....
24x18 cut into 2x3" would be 12 rows by 6 rows = 72 pcs x 2 cakes = 144 pcs plus the 3-tier cake.

Sounds like they cut 'em big enough for a Bubba appetite!

Show them the charts .... show them what size they SHOULD have cut them .... show them the error was their's not yours.... show them that you provide more than enough cake for what they paid for.

Don't let them try to talk to you about "well, we didn't want them that small!" Tough toenails! Then you should have bought more cake.

If you go into a restaurant and you order grilled chicken, a "serving" is about the size of your hand. If you think that is too small, then you need to order (and pay for!) another serving.
