How do I get this stuff to attach itself to the skewer??? I am trying to make a dard and the stuff just wouldn't stick. There was already a little water on it and I thought that would make it stick?? I guess not!

Please help!! Cake is due Saturday and I need them to dry!

Did you pinch it at the base? you must let it dry. You could also try using egg white instead of water, but let it dry and it will stick.

Is it something you can stick the skewer into? I usually stick whatever (skewer, wire, popsicle stick) into before it dries out. But, if it's already dry, or not something you can put the skewer into, try 'gluing' it with royal icing.

yes, I did pinch it at the ends but in the middle of how long I had it wraped around the skewer, I wasn't sticking on the inside. (hope that I described that correctly) I guess I will just have to let it dry and see if it turns out.

Would gumpaste be better??

You have to do it gradual steps. First, make the skewer sticky with gum glue. Then, apply a thin smear of gumpaste. After that dries, you can apply more gum glue and gumpaste on top of that.

Edited to ask: What's a dard?

I'm not too sure about a skewer but if you're using the heavy wire make a small hook on th end that will be inserted into the gumpaste. Dip that into egg whites, shape your gumpaste into a small oval and slide it into the hook. Let dry for a bit. Then roll that into the egg white and place the gumpaste that will be shaped into the dart over it. Slowly shape it into the dart and towards the bottom pull a little as you turn the wire in your hand this should adhere the gumpaste perfectly to the wire. Let it dry and you should be ready to go. Hope it works for you. thumbs_up.gif

I use skewers all the time. Just a little water should work and it does help to pinch it at the bottom. It typically won't feel sturdy until it dries. If it falls off once dry, then pipe a little royal into the hole and re-insert the skewer. It certainly won't ruin it.
