What is the best turntable on the market for decorating large or heavy cakes?? I have the Wilton tilting turntable, but it doesn't stay locked in the tilted position for a 16 inch cake. Has anyone ever used the Karousel? It's expensive, but sounds good. Any suggestions?
I've got the "Professional" turntable from Wilton and it's really heavy, it moves very easily, and best of all, I got it for 40% off at Michaels!
It's just like the Ateco ones that Julia Child used and Martha Stewart still uses. ![]()
I'm sure there are more expensive ones, and they may be able to hold more, etc., but I have been able to decorate a 4 tiered wedding cake that was twice torted & filled on each layer. That cake was extremely heavy!!! The turntable handled it with ease.
I, too, have the Wilton tilting turntable. It works for cakes that have intricate decorations on the sides and that kind of thing, but I think it was cheaply made. IMHO ![]()

Thanks LadyMike for the info......I too love using the 40% off coupons at Michaels and JoAnn's! (I just used the 50% off at JoAnn's this past weekend). I just wasn't sure about the Wilton professional turntable after having some issues with the tilting turntable. If it handled your 3 tier, heavy cake, it should be fine for me. I've only done 2 wedding cakes so far. I've never even taken classes.....but I'd love to so I can learn all the secrets. I think I'll post a pic of the cake a few weeks ago. Thanks again! ![]()
I Looooove my Karousel. It's the only one I use now. I even do my large cakes and sheetcakes on it. It is a little costly though but helps to get nice even borders on round cakes.
I have wilton's tilting one, but never use it anymore. I never did use the tilting function anyway.

IMHO everyone should put their Wilton tilting turntables where the sun doesn't shine on whoever designed them. I felt really bad about hating mine so much because my daughter bought it for me (at regular price). I finally told her that she could have it back but she wouldn't like it. just use a rubbermaid turntable now.

I saw the Karousel on more than a few websites and was drooling! I wondered if it was worth the money, but it sounds like it is! Wish there was a coupon for it!! I'll just have to save a while. Sorry to hear that everyone has had crummy luck with the tilting Wilton.....even at half price it seems it hasn't been worth the money ![]()
You're very welcome, laweymers! Also, welcome to CC! ![]()
I made one of my granddaughters a SpongeBob SquarePants cake and a dozen matching cupcakes for her birthday today and the only trouble I had with the Wilton Professional turntable was that it moved too easily!
I actually had to go back to the first turntable I ever bought which was the one I bought to take the classes - the Wilton Revolving Cake Stand. How unreal is that?!?! ![]()
Oh well, you just need to research and find out which is/are going to be the right one/ones for you. I'll have to check out the Karousel. I'm wondering if that's the one that is electronic and has adjustable speeds, etc. That would be nice! Good luck with your choice! ![]()
