How Do I Pipe Icing To Make It Look Like Thin Bamboo Shoots?

I am making a cake for my friends wedding shower. She is going to Thailand for her honeymoon and wants a Thai theme for her shower. I have no idea how to make the bamboo look as real as possible. I was thinking of making the shoots out of rolled fondant, but even then I would need some tips. Can anyone help?
I have never done fondant, but to pipe them from royal or BC icing, you could put your wax paper down on a cookie sheet or board. Then use a round, depending on how big you want them, say 10 or so, then pipe your line and every so often, as you are going up, give it a little push down, while still applying pressure. Gosh, I hope that made sense!!! LOL You could even pipe them on a small skewer and stick it in a styrofoam block to dry. Just push the stick up into the bag and squeeze and pull the stick out as you go, and every so often, push it back up in and back out real quick. I did that once for some stork's legs. Worked grrrrreat! Then, when ready, just stick them into the cake. I would use royal icing and let them dry, then, you don't have to worry about doing it the day of right on the cake. Good Luck!!!
