For those of you who use foamboard for cakes, Hobby Lobby has theirs 50% off.

I make my cake drums/boards for wedding cakes with the 1/2" foamboard. Looks like the WIlton ones. Just thought I would pass it on.

Thanks for sharing. I've used their foamboard before and it rocks.

You cover it with the Wilton foil, Freezer paper or whatever and use it for the base of your cake. It is very sturdy and pretty cheap.

If you do not cover it will the cake leave grease stains on the foamcore? I just bought some and it looks like it has a shiny coating on it. I would love to leave it white.

Anyone have easy way to cut foamboard? I tried it with a box cutter, scissors, and an exacto knife...It's tough stuff. My wilton instructor had some type of electric hot tool to cut it

I was having a difficult time as well cutting the foamboard, until I got a foamboard cutter. I got mine at Micheals right next to the foamboards. It's basically a razor blade (length can be adjusted to thickness of board). I usually hold a metal ruler in one hand & the razor in the other, so the lines are straight.

Have any of you guys cut the foamboard into circles?

I have my first quinceañera cake coming up and I would like to use the foam board - but as ya'll know - it's hard to cut.

You might try looking at the Dollar Store for the foamboard. I picked up a dozen sheets of 1/4" a few weeks ago. It beats spending $3.50 and up at the craft stores.

I cut mine with an exato knife. The circles are a little bit difficult and sometimes that aren't as smooth as a straight edge but one you have the circle cut out you can always trim the rough edges with a sharp knife or razor blade.

thanks, ljhow! I don't know why I hadn't thought of 1. going to the dollar store and 2. touching it up with the exacto knife.
