for lilacs:

You need fine florist wire, gum paste, scissors and floral tape.

1st: cut and hook several wires (takes about 200 flowers to make a nice sprig)

I use a round ball of paste about the size of a very small pea, dip hooked end of wire in gum glue and insert into round ball, elongate ball of paste so that it is tear drop shaped, with the fat end at the top of the wire, using a small pair of scissors make a cross X at the top of the ball, then using your fingers or a ball tool, work the X into the petals, Some of your buds you will leave with just an Xfor the closed buds. Set all the flowers aside in stryo foam to dry when dry tape together with 1/4 width floral tape.

WOW Peg818. Is this how you do your lilacs? It must take you forever. Have you seen the cutters for the lilacs? I found some and plan on using them. I just don't have any directions for using them yet. Maybe I can figure them out on my own when I get them. I will try your method to see if I can do it. Thanks so much.

I have a cutter, but found it faster and easier and cheaper to do it with out.

To use a cutter, you can either place a small piece of gum paste on the wire and stick the cut out on it. Or using the mexican hat method make a tiny mexican hat and place the cutter over it, then cut it out and insert the wire.

Doesn't really matter which way you choose you still need to make about 150 to 200 blossoms for each sprig of flower, in order for it to look real

They do go really fast, and that is to make it life size. But anyway you look at it, it is time.

Thanks for the info on the Kemper cutters. I was looking for something very, very small, to use on a new project.
