Is there a national week for Teacher Appreciation? I want to make my kids teachers some cakes and their schools have not made any mention of Teacher Appreciation Week and I know it is either this week or next.

Seems a little odd that their weekly newsletter has not mentioned it!

Ours is this week too. I voulenteered (to learn how to spell....lol) to donate a cake. I am going to make a beehive cake with little bees on wires. Even though our mascot is a cheetah. I don't think I could make one of those so does anyone have a cute phrase with bees?

I thought it was next week, too.
I think it's always the 2nd week of May.

The high school where my daughter attends did it last week. I made muffins from the Cake Mix Doctor-Cupcakes book. Gosh they were delicious. Blueberry-Banana Muffins w/ a streusel topping, double lemon poppyseed muffins w cream cheese and Blueberry Muffins w/ a streusel topping. Very, very good and a big hit. Easier than I thought too.

You guys are great moms! When my son gets older I too plan on doing stuff to recognize his teachers.

I am a stay-at-home mom now, but before we had my son 2 years ago, I was a Special Education teacher in a middle school. If you feel inclined to do so, please try to remember the other teachers in the building that aren't necessarily your child's primary teacher (i.e. art, music, PE, special ed, speech, etc.) These teachers often get overlooked when it comes to holidays and gifts from the students.

I worked closely with a team of teachers and it was always tough to see them receiving all these really wonderful gifts and treats from the students. Alot of times these other teachers are overlooked.

Just a thought.

You guys are GREAT! thumbs_up.gif

Have a wonderful day!
Brandi

Hi all! Our Teacher Appreciation Day is next Tuesday, May 9th. I am planning on doing one big cake for all the teachers to enjoy. I just have to decide on a design.

It depends on the school your child goes to. The school I work at is having Teacher Appreciation week from 5/15-19. But we have volunteer appreciation on May 9th, so I am working on creative ideas for that one. So far the hampster has yet to wake up in my brain to give me any ideas. icon_lol.gif

I say call your school and ask them when they are having it. My school has set aside a different treat for everyday. 15th is breakfast, 16th is lunch, 17th is Death by Chocolate, 18th is On the Border lunch, 19th is miscellaneous treats.

Maybe the school does not recognize it?

I just looked it up and the official day is May 9th. You could always just show up that day or one other day with something and hand it over to her. Teachers always enjoy food or other goodies. thumbs_up.gif

My daughter's school (private) is celebrating this week. Another school (public) I know of is also celebrating this week. A third school (private) in the area is not acknowledging at all. And a fourth school (charter/public)is only celebrating the 'official' day next Tuesday.

I guess it really depends on where you live and where your kids go to school.

In 1984, National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week-the first full week in May-to honor the dedicated men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children.

From the National PTA Association web site.
In 2006, it is May 7-13

As a current 2nd grade teacher, it is so wonderful to hear the "sweet" things you all plan to do for your child's teacher during Teacher Appreciation Day/Week. I want to let you know that it really touches deep in our hearts when parents (and their kiddos!) express how much you appreciate their hard work in making your child a successful learner. We don't get paid much, but just knowing you are appreciated by parents is priceless.

Here is another hint for Teacher Appreciation Day/Week - if you are not in the mood to bake yummy treats, a priceless gift to give to any teacher is a heartfelt letter written to the school principal expressing your appreciation for the teacher. Tell the principal why you appreciate the teacher so much, maybe telling some specific details. After these letters are read by the principal, they get permanently placed in the teacher's professional file for as long as they remain a teacher. Make a copy of the letter to hand deliver to the teacher yourself and let him/her know what you did. You will SURELY make your special teacher's day!
