I have a graduation cake to do and the lady's daughter wants her cake iced in royal blue frosting. I am going to use a white chocolate cream cheese frosting.

Is it going to be hard to achieve this dark of a color and how many bottles of dye is this going to take? (I use Americolor).

Do you think there is going to be an aftertaste and will it turn everyone's mouth blue?

I am thinking of suggesting white cake with blue decorations instead.

Thanks!

I decorated a cake several months ago that was all navy blue. I am not sure how dark you want to go, but I did not even use 1 bottle. Some people suggest adding a touch of black but I did not have to. There was not an aftertaste with mine at all but yes, it will turn everyones mouth blue!

Hi,
I just did a baby shower cake of a sailor outfit and used Navy Blue Americolor and it surely didn't turn out the navy blue I was hoping for. ( see my profile) It's more of a dark baby blue. I kept adding more and more color but that's as dark as I could get. I used buttercream with all Crisco. I did try adding a touch of black to a small amount but it made an ugly grayish blue color. Hope yours turns out well.
